About Progress Florida Education Center
Progress Florida Education Center (PFEC) engages in research, analysis and educating the public. We empower Floridians to address our challenges with progressive solutions. PFEC focuses on issues relating to progressive values, including social justice, health care, environmental protection, economic fairness, quality public education, and much more.We carry out our educational mission by providing information and analysis of the current state of affairs with respect to progressive values through our website. In addition, we seek to raise awareness regarding progressive issues by providing seminars and trainings to the public, and occasionally inviting members of the community to take non-legislative action on such issues. Presently, PFEC's activities include:
- Keeping Floridians Up-To-Date On Progressive Issues And Current Events. Our Daily Clips service provides a free news and research roundup every weekday to all interested members of the public who wish to stay current on Florida's most pressing social issues, learn about recent studies and research and get educated about the issues that impact Florida. We also publish reports from other nonpartisan charitable organizations on timely topics such as health care reform and offshore drilling on our website.
- Educating Floridians On Current Issues And Community Organizing. We work with non-partisan community groups and co-sponsor trainings for local leaders interested in current issues impacting their communities and educating them on non-legislative actions through community organizing techniques. PFEC hopes to conduct more of these types of trainings in the future. If you're interested in one of these trainings, contact us.
- Nonpartisan Issue Education Through Candidate Forums. We have sponsored a non-partisan debate for mayoral candidates in St. Petersburg in order to ensure that the voting public was educated and informed before they went to the polls. The debate covered a wide range of issues from green jobs to affordable housing. PFEC hopes to increase the degree to which voters in Florida are educated and informed about issues that affect their lives and future. We are also working together with other charitable and educational organizations to make voter registration and the ballot more accessible and understandable to every day Floridians.
